One of the best ways I have found to stay organized - in life and while trying to eat better - is to come up with a PLAN. Before we jumped on the Weight Watchers bandwagon, Bryan and I started planning out our meals for the week using a Google Calender that we share. It's nice because we can both edit it when needed, and it's also convenient to access on the go. (Plus, Bryan likes to "anticipate" dinner. Don't we all?) Here's our plan for this week:
Monday - Slow-Cook Tuscan Sausage and Bean Soup
Tuesday - Chicken, Broccoli and Brown Rice Skillet leftovers
Wednesday - Crock Pot French Onion Soup
Thursday - Quick & Easy Cioppino
Friday - Chicken Chop Suey
Saturday - Crock Pot Gumbo
Sunday - Shrimp Creole
The recipes without links are from various cookbooks that we have around the house - and before you call my bluff on the whole "dieting" thing, keep in mind that just about all have been modified to reduce Points values. Anyway, after planning it all out I realized that we were planning to have two cajun-inspired rice dishes in one weekend, so we may mix up Sunday's dinner and do something else we like with ingredients we tend to keep on hand, like Baked Shrimp with Tomatoes and Feta.
The important part is that we have it planned, our Points for the week are tracked (all of them), and we have a grocery list going in Google Docs that we can add to and then print out before we go to the store. Depending on what's in the ad this week, we'll finalize our list, print it out and head to Kroger on either Wednesday or Thursday... and then hopefully we won't have to go back until the following week!* :-)
*Unlike this week when I completely spaced out the fact that I threw away my curry powder and we were nearly out of coffee and had to make an emergency trip to the store. Oops.
